New LHB rakes introduced on Train No. 14662/14661 (Shalimar Express)

Train No. 14662 (Jammu to Barmer) and 14661 (Barmer to Jammu) operating on the Jammu Division of Northern Railway will soon be fitted with new LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) rakes.
This change will provide passengers with a better and more comfortable travel experience. LHB rakes are known for their advanced safety features, such as anti-climbing (chock-a-block) and improved curb-sweeping, which enhance passenger safety.
This new initiative reflects the Railways’ commitment to modernization and improved passenger service. The LHB rakes will offer an enhanced travel experience, featuring more modern and comfortable seats, improved suspension, and more space.

Speaking on the new LHB rakes, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Uchit Singhal, stated that new LHB rakes will be introduced to Train No. 14662 from January 15, 2026, and new LHB rakes will be introduced to Train No. 14661 from January 18, 2026, These LHB rakes feature larger windows and improved interior lighting to provide a wider and better visual experience for passengers. LHB coaches are designed to run at speeds of approximately 100 kmph or more.

An LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) coach is a type of passenger rail coach used by Indian Railways, developed from German technology and now manufactured in India. They are considered superior to older ICF coaches in terms of safety, speed, and comfort, and are the standard for many modern Indian trains like the Shatabdi and Rajdhani Express. Key features include a higher speed of up to 160 km/h, stainless steel construction for durability, and improved safety features like anti-climbing couplers and emergency windows.
