NFICI sponsored awareness programme on RTI at MGSIPA

Bathinda-Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration (MGSIPA) Punjab, Regional Centre Bathinda organized One-day Awareness Programme on Right to Information Act, 2005. Over 50 Representatives of NGOs, Opinion Leaders & Social Activists from Bathinda district took part in the programme.

The programme which has been sponsored by National Federation of Information Commissions in India (NFICI) aims to generate awareness about RTI Act, 2005 among masses and make government administrative machinery more transparent and accountable to problems and grievances of people.

Initiating the discussion, Jarnail Singh, Course Director (RTI), MGSIPA–cum Regional Project Director, MGSIPA Regional Centre, Bathinda said that this pro-people act has contributed in a big way in empowering common man and giving relief to people for finding solutions to their problems. He also said that the NFICI has organized over 300 programmes in last year on various subject like RTI, Sevottom, Office Procedure, Civil Service Rules, Financial Management, Soft Skills & etc. besides providing consultancy, publications and dissemination of ideas/information in an integrated manner. A pool of resource persons, experts of eminence in various disciplines is associated with training programmes. He expressed gratitude to the members of NGOs for participating in the programme.

Dr. Nimmi Jindal, Head of Law Department, Punjabi University Regional Centre Bathinda highlighted the various features of RTI Act, 2005 & its significance in public life and Landmark judgments of Supreme Court, Delhi and Punjab & Haryana High Court, Chandigarh on RTI Act, 2005.

Concluding the deliberations Butta Singh Sidhu, Dean, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Technical University Bathinda said that the RTI Act is revolutionary legislation which has helped the common in mitigating the problems of the people. He emphasized that the government machinery must come forward in delivering required the information by the applicant He urged the member of the NGOs to facilitate the Public in insuring supply of information for the concerned Public authority.
