Deputy Commissioner, Patiala, Dr. Preeti Yadav, while presiding over a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee today, emphasized that no life should be lost due to ‘black spots’—accident-prone areas on roads. She directed all concerned departments, including the Transport Department and Traffic Police, to continuously identify and address such spots to prevent accidents.
Dr. Preeti Yadav highlighted that black spots can change over time and stressed the need for regular inspections. She instructed SDMs to survey roads in villages and cities within their jurisdictions, identify accident-prone areas, and ensure their immediate repair. “Our aim is to provide safe and accident-free roads because every life lost in an accident causes irreparable harm to families,” she said.
She made it clear that any accident caused due to negligence would hold the responsible department or agency accountable. Dr. Preeti Yadav also pointed out that foggy weather significantly increases the risk of accidents. She instructed officials to remove street vendors and other obstructions from roads. Repair potholes and ensure roads remain well-maintained. Install reflectors on bicycles, vendor carts, and trolleys. Replace damaged road signs and trim overhanging tree branches.
The Deputy Commissioner further emphasized strict implementation of the Safe School Vehicle Policy to ensure the safety of schoolchildren when schools reopen. She directed the Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) and Regional Transport Officer to expedite compensation cases under the Hit and Run Motor Accident Scheme-2022.
