No official work in Punjabi; govt has taken serious cognisance of the issue

In order to promote mother tounge, Punjab government has taken seriously to use of Punjabi language in official work.In a letter dated November 25, 2019, issued by Punjab govt higher education and language department (education cell) to all the heads of state government, divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners, heads of boards/ corporations, district session judges, sub divisional magistrates (civil) and registrar Punjab and Haryana high court  to do official work in Punjabi, under the Punjab official Languages Act .

As per the letter issued by Special secretary higher education to all the heads for strict implementation of ‘Punjab, Punjabi and Learning of Other Languages Act, 2008. It further states that “as the instructions to do the official work in Punjabi language had already been issued  vide letter number 6/14/18-1 C.Cell/ 1312300/1 dated 5-9-2018 and dated 1-2-2019 , it has come into the notice of government that the departments are not using Punjabi in their official work. “

Taking serious note of the issue ,the department heads were directed to take proper initiative to implement Punjabi in official work and no laxity in this regard is required.It further states to use Punjabi in their day to day work.

“In all civil courts and criminal courts, subordinate to the High Court of Punjab and Haryana, all revenue courts and rent tribunals or any other court or tribunal constituted by the State Government, work in such courts and tribunals are to be done in Punjabi.”

Punjab Government had already promulgated the two legislation’s to ensure proper implementation of Punjabi in all the offices of Punjab government, boards, corporations, subordinate courts and educational institutes in the State.
