Dinesh Kumar Chaurasia from Rampur Kharian village of Gopalganj district of Bihar and Amarnath Patel from Amsauna village of Partapgarh district of Uttar Pradesh (both labourers) would have never imagined being bestowed an “Award of Honour” by renowned personalities of different fields for their diligence, outstanding hard work and honesty towards the profession in construction of a house.

It wasn’t a Labor Day, when labourers like Amarnath Patel, Dinesh Chaurasia, Rajinder Mishra (a plumber hailing from Paraspur village of Gonda district of UP) and Ashok Kumar (An Electrician hailing from Daraybaad village of Barabanki district of UP alongwith their team members were honoured by prominent personalities of Punjab including renowned Punjabi poet Padam Shri Dr. Surjit Patar, Sardar Balwant Singh Ramoowalia (former Union Minister of India for Food, Labour and Welfare), Bathinda MLA Sardar Jagroop Singh Gill, Lambi MLA Sardar Gurmeet Singh Khudian, All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), Director, Dr. Dinesh Kumar Singh, Additional Director General of Police, Dr. Jatindra Jain and distinguished personalities from all walks of life attended the unique function which set a new example of how to celebrate a house warming party.

Prominent Sikh Scholar, Amarjit Singh Grewal, Artist Gurpreet Singh, Bathinda, MRSPTU, Registrar, Dr. Gurinder Pal Singh Brar and senior faculty, former RTI commissioner,  Chander Prakash and well-known academicians, civil, police, judicial officials, politicians, advocates, doctors and artists come together in Bathinda to honour the hard work of the construction workforce.

It was a first of its kind ‘Honour Ceremony’ to honour and salute the collective spirit of the true Hard Work, Diligence, Skill, Ability and Honesty, a dream taken by an elderly woman, Sardarni Amarjit Kaur Sidhu to pay gratitude towards the labour, who shed their sweat to constructed the dream house of the family. Seventy years old Amarjit Kaur Sidhu not only overwhelmed the workers during their job by serving tea and food to them but also treated them like her family.

On her request to honour these workers, her son Harjinder Singh Sidhu, Director Public Relations at Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRS-PTU), Bathinda left no stone unturned to fulfil the small but first of its kind efforts of her mother to honour the workers, project site in-charge and others involved in the house construction from foundation stone to completion.

“It was a unique and first of its kind function to respect the ‘Dignity of Labour’ and salute the mental, physical hard work and sweat shed by every expert and labourers in house construction, who often remain unsung after the completion of the house,” said Dr. Surjit Patar while speaking on the occasion. “It is a good initiative to acknowledge the contributions of real heroes i.e. construction workforce,” he said.

As per the philosophy of Guru Nanak Dev Ji “Kirat Karo, Naam Japo and Vand Chhako, “My family wanted to show their respect and gratitude for the construction workforce, who constructed our dream house with utmost diligence, honesty and hard work. So we decided to modify the idea of a House Warming Party , which coincided with my grandson Gurfateh Singh Sidhu’s Birthday by inviting and honouring all those construction workers, architects, experts and honouring them to make the day memorable, ”said Amarjit Kaur Sidhu .

Novel Initiative-Bathinda family dedicates House Warming Party to honour Construction work force. Those who were honoured with “Award of Honour” include Architect Navneet Garg, Construction specialist from Garg Architect Associates, Jagseer Singh Khalsa, a Mason (Raj Meson from Khialiwala village), Gurpreet Singh Gopi, upright carpenter from Bathinda, Amarnath Patel (Tile and Marble Fitting), Rajinder Mishra (Best Plumber) Ashok Kumar and Jaggi (Electricians), Lal Babu (Down sealing and PoP) along with their team members were honoured for their fine labour, skill, hard work, multi-tasking abilities and diligence towards the profession.

“Often people forget about the people who construct their dream homes. But Amarjit Kaur Sidhu and her family have started a new trend so that we should not only pay workers for their labour, but also understand the value of paying respect to them,” said Balwant Singh Ramoowalia.

“In an endeavour to make the real heroes feel proud of their hard work and labour, it was a modest effort to encourage this spirit of theirs. This is encouragement to honesty and hard work. These workers will be more dedicated after this honour. This is an idea to promote honesty especially when market forces often exploit novice and innocent consumers,” said MLA Jagroop Singh Gill on the occasion.

“People who construct your house must bless your house. They will bless your house when you respect them. We all can take inspiration from this initiative on how to respect workers and take their blessings for a good and happy life,” said Lambi, MLA Gurmeet Singh Khudian.

“I am hopeful that all those who have come to attend this function will take inspiration and spread the message further so that we can have a new trend in the form of HouseWarming Parties,” added Balwant Singh Ramoowalia.

Novel Initiative-Bathinda family dedicates House Warming Party to honour Construction work force. Overwhelmed, dignitaries and construction work force appreciated the initiative and expressed gratitude for making their day a special one.

Additional Chief Secretary to the Punjab Chief Minister, A Venu Prasad and Senior IAS officers, MRSPTU, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Buta Singh Sidhu and prominent academicians, civil, police, judicial officials, media-persons, politicians and artists joined the ceremony online and sent their best wishes for the novel initiative.
