Today, officials of Border Security Force (BSF) captured Khwaja Mir a Pakistani Ranger at Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan.
As per reports, he had, reportedly, crossed into Indian territory from Fort Abbas, a small town located in Pakistan’s Cholistan desert.
This incident occurred after a BSF constable, Purnam Kumar Shaw, a member of the BSF’s 182nd Battalion was previously detained by Pakistani Rangers in Punjab. Shaw was on duty near the Ferozepur border fence when he inadvertently crossed into Pakistani territory. He was in uniform and carrying his service rifle at the time. According to officials, Shaw moved ahead towards a shaded area to rest, during which he crossed the border and was detained by Pakistan Rangers.

India has strongly protested Shaw’s detention. Despite three rounds of flag meetings between the BSF and Pakistan Rangers, the soldier has not been released yet. Now, BSF sources believe the detention of the Mir could serve as leverage to expedite the return of their captured colleague Purnam Sahu.
Following the detention, the BSF has placed all units deployed along the India-Pakistan border on heightened alert.
