Once again Punjab’s largest private thermal plant unit shuts down in paddy season

Once again, one unit of 660 MW of Talwand Sabo Power plant (TSPL) , Punjab’s largest private thermal plant has shut down due to technical glitches.
This is the fourth time that a unit of TSPL is out of order in last around 30 days.
Earlier, around on June 1, June 19 and June 23, 2024 one out of three units of 660 MW each remained out of order.
Now, two units’ of Punjab’s largest power plant Talwand Sabo Power plant (TSPL) at Mansa are working.
When contacted the officials of TSPL they said “our engineers are on the job and will update you about the exact reason and how much time it will take at the earliest. “
“It’s an every year matter of TSPL, when the power is most needed in summer or paddy season, their units fail to perform” said a powercom engineer on the condition of anonymity.
As per information the power plant is operated by TSPL, a subsidiary of Vedanta. The Engineering, procurement and construction contract is given to SEPCO1 of People’s Republic of China. TSPL is using China made Dongfang Steam turbine in three units, Steam generators of Harbin Boiler Co.Ltd. China. It’s the first Supercritical unit and one of the largest Greenfield power project in the State of Punjab.
