To give opportunities to the aspiring youth of the state of Punjab to serve people as doctors, there is dire need to open more government medical colleges and these institutions should be opened under the name of eminent doctors and scientists who were achievers and have contribution in the field of medicine and medical science.
Along with this, the admission fee of these government medical colleges must be very nominal so that poor and middle class aspiring students could afford medical education.
These views have been expressed in a press note released by National Fellowship Awardee Dr. DS Bhullar as convener of Punjab Allopathic Specialists Association (PASA) a state body of specialist medical experts.
Further, all posts of the specialist doctors lying vacant in Heath and Family Welfare Department should be filled immediately to provide specialist medical services to the people of Punjab along with enhancement in retirement age to 65 years for all specialist doctors in health and medical education departments like in central government doctors to give benefit to the patients of the expertise of the senior and more experienced doctors in the government set up.
The Health department should also create a separate cadre of specialist doctors so that they can provide services to the patients concerning their own speciality and sparing them from other non-specialist duties and work.
The political parties contesting elections in the state should include these public demands in their election agenda and manifest, said Bhullar.
