Congress MLA from Kapurthala, Rana Gurjit Singh, has written to Prashant Sinha, Project Director of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Ambala, drawing attention towards the severe inconvenience being faced by commuters due to ongoing bridge construction near the Rajpura Bypass.
Rana Gurjit Singh noted that vehicular movement on the main Patiala–Rajpura route has become extremely difficult, leading to daily massive traffic jams. Passengers, schoolchildren, and even emergency service vehicles often remain stuck for long durations. Such conditions, he emphasized, are not only inconvenient but also pose serious safety risks to the public.
The MLA has urged the NHAI to immediately begin construction of service lanes on both sides of the highway and to ensure that these lanes are widened and made easily navigable, allowing smooth traffic flow during the bridge construction phase.
He cautioned that failure to take timely measures could turn this stretch into a chronic traffic bottleneck, potentially hampering both economic and social activities in the region.
Expressing confidence in the authorities, Rana Gurjit Singh said he hopes the NHAI will treat this as a priority public issue, act promptly, and provide much-needed relief to the people.
