Patiala administration celebrates world environment day with full zeal & enthusiasm;DC,DFO planted saplings

World Environment Day was celebrated by the District Administration Patiala in collaboration with Forest Department and other NGOs with full zeal & enthusiasm in connection with the World Environment Day being celebrated on 5th June all over the world. On this occasion Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney, District Forest Officer Vidiya Sagri and members of the local NGOs planted saplings in Nature Park under the slogan “Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature on One EARTH”.
Before this a Cleanliness Drive, Bird Nest Boxes Distribution, Green Pledge (Signature Campaign) and Plant Adoption organised at Enviornment Park and Nature Park, Nabha Road, Near Thapar University, Patiala.
Sakshi Sawhney, Deputy Commissioner said that the problem of environment was becoming more serious day by day. She said that the tragedy was that human beings have only one earth to live in but due to the irresponsible attitude of human beings towards the environment the basic necessities of life such as air, water, soil was getting polluted. Sakshi Sawhney said that World Environment Day is celebrated on 5th June all over the world to create awareness among the people about the purity and protection of environment.
She said that District Administration and the Forest department had drawn up various programs in connection with the environment day. She said that trees were very much needed for human life but trees were being cut down day by day. She said that today the saplings were planted in Nature Park to spread the message of “Each one Plant one”.
Great initiatives of Dist Administration Vertical garden inaugurated by DC Saskhi Sawhney, she appeals to maintain gardens as Waste to wealth and started a Nature Bank in District Administration complex.

At the same time to convey the message of cleanliness, the members of Environmental Park Society and officials picked up plastic envelopes, garbage and other harmful substances inside Enviornment Park and Nature Park. On this occasion Additional Deputy Commissioners Gautam Jain, Gurpreet Singh Thind and Isha Singhal and Assistant Commissioner (G)Kiran Sharma, Advocate BS Billing, Dr Anil Garg, Amarjit Singh Sonu Chohan, Gajjan Singh, HS Sekhon, Forest Range Officer Amandeep Kaur, Rajinder Vicky, Vinod Sharma, Tarlochan Singh, Dr Vinita, Dr Punam Sharma, Dr Vijeta Mittal, Dr Jaspreet Kaur, Dr Mandeep Kaur, Preeti and Reeta were also present.
