Patiala Charger won Western Command Polo Challenge

Western Command organized a Polo Challenge Match at Patiala’s Polo and Riding Club, Near Patiala Aviation Club on Saturday, 11 Nov 2017.Lt. Gen Surinder Singh AVSM, VSM , GOC-In-C  of Western Command  was the chief guest.

Punjab Govt under the able guidance of its Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh is going to organize  India’s first Military Literature Festival  at Chandigarh in the month of December. This Polo match is is a part of Military Literature festival  and was also organized under the effective leadership of Capt. Amarinder Singh, Chief Minister of Punjab.

During the inauguration ceremony, Lt. General Surinder Singh, AVSM, VSM came in a special chariot at New Polo Ground. A flying past is done by planes of Patiala Aviation Club, during the opening ceremony of the Polo Match. After reaching the ground, the chief guest was introduced with both the teams- Patiala Chargers and Patiala Raiders.

Patiala Chargers won the match by 4-3. Chief Guest Lt. Gen. Surinder Singh, AVSM, VSM, GOC-In-C gave away the prizes and honoured the winning team. After the match, a special show is organized by 61 Horse Riders of Cavalry Regiment and by Army Band.

Raja Malwinder Singh, younger brother of Capt. Amarinder Singh also attended the polo match. He further said, that Chief Minister of Punjab Capt. Amarinder Singh is very keen to revive the  game of Polo.

Advisor to CM Punjab, Lt. Gen TS Shergill (Retd.), Principal Secy. To CM Tejveer Singh, Shivdular Singh Dhillon (IAS), AS Rai (IPS)- IGP, Patiala Zone, Dr. Sukhchain Singh Gill (IPS)-DIG Patiala Range, DC Patiala-Kumar Amit (IAS), SSP Patiala- Dr. S Bhoopati (IPS) along with battery of Administrative and Army officers   were also present during the Polo Match.

Western Command Polo match was open and entry is free, a lots of local residents, students also witnessed the match with great interest.
