Patiala district administration called in Army; to assist paramedic staff caring Covid patients

Services of 30 army personnel would be utilised to assist paramedic staff caring COVID patients at Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, said deputy commissioner Patiala, Kumar Amit while reviewing the COVID arrangements, today evening. Deputy Commissioner said that Rajindra Hospital Patiala is working as tertiary care for the care of COVID patients and it caters patients not only from Punjab but from NCR too. The deaths being attributed to Patiala district, included patients from other district and NCR too, he added. He said that being the L-3 facility, this hospital receives the patients in a severe sick condition and the medical staff gives them best treatment but severity of the decease hampers their efforts.
Surabhi Malik, Nodal officer for Tertiary Care at Rajindra Hospital with Additional Charge of Additional Secretary, Medical Education and Research, added that we have enhanced the number of L-3 bed facilities to 180 from the existing 120. She said that today we have 140 severely sick patients out of 286. She said that we have a total of 600 L-2 and L-3 COVID beds. Appreciating the courage shown by the army personnel to help the medical staff in care of COVID patients, she said that it would be beneficial for the overburdens staff.
Surabhi Malik further said that although there was a shortage of oxygen all over the country but due to constant liaison and coordination with the district and state control rooms, in this hospital the required supply of oxygen was being made available on time and no shortage has been reported till date. She said that six ton large oxygen container for Liquid Medical Oxygen, oxygen generator, extra oxygen cylinders, oxygen concentraters are also available here and extra oxygen is available as per the requirement of the patients. She said that no patient has been admitted here in the last two months who has been given two doses of COVID vaccine, so people should come forward and get COVID vaccine to avoid fatality.
Malik said that apart from Patiala district, critically ill patients from other parts of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi were also coming to the hospital for treatment and most of these patients as already recieved in critical condition, resulting in deaths. She further said that there was no sapce crunch for placing dead bodies in the mortuary of Rajindra Hospital and necessary infrastructure was in place for additional need.
Dr. Vishal Chopra and Dr. Amandeep Singh Bakhshi while handing over PPE kits to the Army Personnel, briefed them the essential points for serving the patients in the COVID ward wearing kits. Expressing their solidarity, these Indian Army personnel gave their commitment to take care of the sick patients and to handle their dead bodies too.
