Patiala Result Analysis: Moti Bagh Palace in gloom as Gandhi makes way to the parliament

Today, Congress candidate Dr Dharamvir Gandhi has won the Patiala parliamentary seat for the second time. He defeated Aam Aadmi Party candidate Dr Balbir Singh by 14,831 votes. Earlier Dr Gandhi won the elections in 2014 when he had defeated Preneet kaur by a margin of 20,942 votes.
Sitting member parliament (MP) Preneet Kaur remained at third position and NK Sharma of Shiromani Akali dal remained at fourth position. Even SAD (Amritsar) candidate polled 47,274 votes and BSP candidate has got 22,400 votes. All other candidates jointly polled 1,05,685 votes including SAD (A), BSP, Independent candidates and NOTA. Total 6681 voters had pressed NOTA and 509 votes are rejected.
Dr Dharamvir Gandhi has shattered the dream of Preneet Kaur as she is expecting a ministerial berth in the union government, if BJP formed the government at the centre.
On the other hand Patiala Rural MLA and state’s health minister Dr Balbir Singh has also given a tough fight to Dr Daharmvir Gandhi.
Earlier Capt Amarinder Singh has lost the assembly elections from Patiala urban in 2022 and now Preneet Kaur has lost her parliamentary seat in these elections, has raised the question on the survival of political career of Moti Bagh Palace-the official residence of Capt Amarinder Singh and Preneet Kaur.
Even Prime Minister Narender Modi had campaigned for Preneet Kaur in Patiala but she failed to convert it into her win.
Speculations are rife that many congress leaders including her old party colleagues had silently helped her in this polling in some assembly constituencies.
Dr Dharamvir Gandhi of Congress polled 3, 05,616 votes where as Dr Balbir Singh got 2, 90,785, Preneet Kaur polled 2,88,998 votes and NK Sharma got 1,53,978 votes.
Out of these votes, Dr Gandhi got 944 ballot votes where as Dr Balbir Singh got 700 votes, Preneet Kaur got 528 and NK Sharma got 198 votes.
Dr Dharamvir Gandhi got lead from Nabha, Ghanour where as Dr Balbir Singh got lead from Patiala Rural, Samana, Shutrana and Sanour. Similarly Preneet Kaur got lead from Patiala urban, Rajpura and Dera Bassi assembly constituencies.
