Patience paid; 61 Punjab college lectures to get appointment letter after 17 years

The Higher Education Department, Punjab Government, has okayed giving appointment letters to the 61 college lecturers of the Ravi Sidhu case. This was disclosed here today by the Higher Education Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa.

Divulging details, the minister said that 16 appointment letters have already been given and those lecturers found eligible would also be given appointment letters provided they submit required documents to the department.

Bajwa further added that the issue of recruitment of the lecturers was stalled for a long time due to the matter being sub judice. But now with the court giving it’s judgement in the matter, the departmental committee has found 61 college lecturers eligible in accordance with the directions of the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.

Patience paid; 61 Punjab college lectures to get appointment letter after 17 years.It is noteworthy that during the tenure of ex Chairman PPSC Ravi Inder Singh Sidhu the personnel department had cancelled the selection of the college lecturers through a notification Dated 16.05.2003. This was challenged by the 69 selected candidates via different writ petitions and the High Court had stayed the interview with regard to the concerned subjects after which out of 69, 48 candidates were declared non tainted while 21 were declared tainted as per a report.

As these 69 candidates had approached the Punjab and Haryana high court, the court had imposed a stay on further recruitment process in 2003 and directed the state to first decide the fate of petitioners. A state government committee had found cutting, overwriting and writing with pencil in answer sheets of these selected candidates.
