On October 1, 2021. newly designated chief minister of Punjab met prime minister Narendra Modi at his New Delhi residence.
During the meeting chief minister Channi requested the prime minister to allow the state govt to procure paddy immediately, as the union government has changed the date from October 1 to october 11 at last minute , on September 30.
Today, PM acceded to Punjab CM demands; allow state govt to start procurement from October 3, 2021.
Expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his immediate personal intervention to advise the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in this regard, the Chief Minister said this decision would be now instrumental in ensuring smooth and hassle free procurement of paddy to the satisfaction of the farmers.
It may be recalled that the Chief Minister met Modi yesterday, who had assured him of early resolution of this issue.
Notably, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, GoI had taken a decision to postpone the paddy procurement from the October 1, the scheduled date to October 11 at the eleventh hour thus creating unnecessary resentment and confusion amongst the farmers besides putting the state in quandary.
