Today, in protest against the alleged repeated tyranny of the club members, Secretary Dr. Sukhdeep Singh Boparai, who won with a record-breaking vote in the history of the Gymkhana Club, resigned from his post in anger. In his resignation letter to the president he mentioned ” Under the present circumstances, I am forced to resign from the post of Hony. Secy, RGMC, Patiala. I hereby tender my resignation from the post of Hony. Secy, RGMC, Patiala, under protest with immediate effect.”

Later in a press communique, Secretary Dr. Sukhdeep Singh Sukhi Boparai said “he has been struggling to hold timely elections of the famous Gymkhana Club of North India, Patiala which was not acceptable to the dictators.”

He added that “he wanted to hold the annual elections of the club in October on time in a democratic manner, which was not acceptable to the dictators, along with this, a conspiracy is being made to amend the constitution by calling an EGM, which is not acceptable to the members of the club. Dr. Boparai said that when he refused to give his consent on both the issues, the President, Vice President and Treasurer started calling meetings to take everything into their own hands, going against the rules.” Dr. Boparai said that when “he went to Canada for his personal work in the month of June-July, later taking advantage of his and Joint Secretary Vinod Sharma’s absence (who was also on a visit to Canada), they started doing illegal activities. In which without EGM the work of removing the green patch of golf and volleyball and converting it into concrete was started without any approval at a cost of more than necessary.”

He further added that “the major renovation of the president’s room was done without any reason and the bathrooms that were built by breaking them could have been renovated with only 20 percent of the cost. While the club is already in financial loss, Dr. Boparai said that regarding the non-payment of financial payments that are being talked about, I want to clarify that they were only denied payment of lakhs of rupees for the expenses made without the approval of the EGM, the rest was never stopped by them. ”

Dr. Boparai said that the biggest thing is that when the elections are announced and the previously elected body completes its term, then EGM is not called again and again but all the decisions are taken in the AGM itself. But here EGM is repeated again and again. The big conspiracy behind calling it seems that they want to implement dictatorship by amending the constitution and not electing all 12 directors, and keeping 8 of their directors without election. Which is against democracy, is not acceptable to the club members and is fatal for the club.

Joint Secretary of the club Vinod Sharma said that it is unfortunate for Secretary Dr. Sukhdeep Singh Boparai to resign, but the circumstances in which he has resigned are very unfortunate. Vinod Sharma said that for the first time in the history of the club, expenses are being made by passing checks without the secretary, EGM is being called, unnecessary expenses are being made, then it is only right for the secretary to express his anger.

Club Secretary Dr. Sukhdeep Singh Boparai said that I was entrusted with the responsibility of the secretary by the club members with record-breaking votes, therefore it is my moral duty to protect the interests of the members and I cannot sacrifice the interests of the club members at any cost. He said that it is most important to maintain democracy in the club and when the clouds of danger start looming over the club’s democracy, then how could I continue in my position. He said that I have taken this step to protect the interests of the club members.

Meanwhile the club president could not be contacted for comments.

Later, the club management called Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) on November 22,2025 at 10:00 AM at the Club premises to seek approval of proposal amendments aimed at ensuring the efficient and transparent operation of the club.
