Today on Labour Day, in protest against the privatization of the electricity department in Uttar Pradesh, a cycle march was organized by power employees as part of their ongoing protests against the proposed privatization of two electricity distribution companies.
The march was a demonstration of their collective opposition to the government’s plans, with employees raising slogans and handing over memoranda to representatives. The protests are also fueled by concerns over the termination of contractual workers and the potential impact of privatization on employee benefits.
Shailender Dubey Convenor of Vidyut Karmachari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti said that rom tomorrow the engineers from northern state constituents along with representatives of other states from across the country will be participating in a chain fast for the next 8 days.
It is known that earlier in the year 2018 and 2020, there was a clear principle agreement between the government, energy management and organizations in Uttar Pradesh that no privatization of any kind would be done in the energy sector, but the proposal for privatization of Purvanchal and Dakshinanchal Discom and the appointment of consultant is completely unconstitutional and a blatant violation of the agreements.
The primary focus of the protests is the government’s plan to privatize electricity distribution companies. Employees are worried about potential job losses, the impact on their benefits and the overall effects of privatization on their livelihoods.
V K Gupta said that privatization is not at all in the interest of poor electricity consumers, farmers, the general public and employees. The said tender should be canceled. And there was strong opposition to the energy management for withdrawing the proposal of privatization, in which in this protest meeting
