Punjab State Electricity Board Engineer Association (PSEBEA) has raised a serious issue of “Ad-hocism” going on in the state power sector, causing delay in key decision making. The association has written a letter to the chief minister Punjab Bhagwant Mann to look into this all important issue in a timely manner.
“The ad-hocism is creating uncertainty in power sector affecting the efficiency of Punjab state power corporation limited (PSPCL) and Punjab state transmission corporation limited (PSTCL) as the important posts of directors distribution, director commercial , director administration in PSPCL and director technical and director administration in PSTCL , member Punjab state electricity regulatory commission (PSERC), chief electrical inspector (CEI) are not filled. Even the state has lost its claim on the member power in Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), happens first time in six decades” said Er Ajay Pal Singh Atwal, general secretary, PSEBEA.
Er Jasvir Singh Dhiman, president PSEBEA added that the “post of CMD, Punjab state power corporation limited (PSPCL) is coming to an end in December 2022. Power sector requires long term planning to ensure reliable and quality power supply but instead of offering regular tenures, the power department has started granting make-shift extensions to directors in PSPCL/PSTCL and granting additional charges for important posts i.e. Chief Electrical Inspector.”
The association has demanded the regular appointment in PSPCL/PSTCL, PSERC, CEI on priority basis. They requested the chief minister take up the issue of appointment of member power, Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) from Punjab quota with the Union Government.
Even after completing seven months in power the state government has not appointed any member administration in Punjab state Power Corporation limited (PSPCL) and Punjab state transmission corporation limited (PSTCL), although it’s a kind of political post and not require any advertisement, interviews etc as required in other technical posts.
The post of chief electrical inspector falls vacant after the retirement of Darshan Singh Chahal. The post is filled on deputation basis from Punjab government departments, not from PSPCL or PSTCL.
The post of Punjab quota’s member power Bhakra Beas Management Board falls vacant on September 26,2022 after the retirement of Harminder Singh Chugh as Member (Power), Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB).
Power engineers raise “Ad-hocism” issue in power sector with CM .The state government has given second extension to member distribution, commercial of PSPCL and member technical PSTCL and their term is going to end on December 4,2022. The state government has already advertised these posts and a total 84 candidates have applied for these posts. But, till now no decision has been taken by the Mann led Punjab government on them.
