Power outage ; consumer suffer; engineers on strike; PSPCL management in no mood to relent

Today evening saw a change of weather in Punjab. A strong storm, high velocity wind, rain lashes in Punjab. As per available information, 220 KV, 66 KV towers, electricity poles were uprooted in Punjab causing major disruption of power supply. The load crashed to 3970 MW at around 10:00 pm, which shows that major parts of the state are without power.

royalpatiala.in had  already highlighted about the shortage of material in the PSPCL stores ,is hitting the field officers and critical repairs are pending.

Engineers of Punjab state power corporation limited (PSPCL) and Punjab state transmission corporation limited (PSTCL) has already jointly issued a notice for “Protest Action against the Anti Engineer Stance of Management – Non resolution of Agreed Issues and Non Formulation of Wage Formulation Committee (WFC)” to the CMD of PSPCL and PSTCL, due to the lax attitude of its management, on June 4,2021.

As per their programme “all Engineers of PSPCL & PSTCL have to switch off their Mobile Phones from 5PM to 9AM daily from 07/06/2021 onwards. If the management fail to address their issue, engineers will exit all official WhatsApp  groups and  return the official SIM cards  by 15/06/2021 and all engineers will proceed on mass casual leave.”

As per information all field officers ,of PSEBEA, from all ranks to chief engineers have switched off their official mobile phones, at 5:00 pm before the storm and were not assessable to the consumers, management.

With the onset of paddy season, June 10, the first saw a jump of around 2000 MW in a single day. Today the power demand surges and touches 11,787.

Officials of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) have indicated that in the coming days when paddy sowing would peak and industrial/business activity would pick up after Covid restrictions were lifted from June 15, the total daily demand for power could grow.

We didn’t contact any director of the PSPCL, as its too late to contact them.
