With the outage of two out of three units of Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL) and one out of two units of GVK plant, the dependency of Punjab state power corporation limited (PSPCL) on central pool, increased.

As per sources, two units of 660 MW each of Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL) are not working due to boiler leakage. One unit of 270 MW of GVK Thermal plant is also not in a running condition.

As per sources, the two units of 660 MW of Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL) will be functional by around July 4,2023, till than PSPCL has to shell out extra money for purchasing power.

The total installed capacity of three private power plants is 3920 MW. Out of these 3920, all three combined private power plants are generating around 2147 MWs only. Nabha Power Limited’s (NPL) both units are running on full capacity.

Whereas the state owned thermal plants- GGSSTP Ropar have a generating capacity of 840 MW (4units of 210 MW each) and GHTP Lehra Mohabbat have 920 MW (2 units of 210 MW each and 2 units of 250 MW each) are generating 1326 MW. 885 MW is being generated by the hydro projects.
