Powercom employees, pensioners serial hunger strike enters third day, resolve employees demands  – Dharamvir Gandhi

14 leaders belonging to the joint platform of the struggling organizations of employees and pensioners held a 24-hour serial hunger strike in front of Powercom headquarters for the third day today against the Punjab government’s anti-power sector policy and sale of the assets of the power corporation .

Congress party MP Dr. Dharamvir Gandhi reached this hunger strike camp and demanded from the Punjab government to abandon the policy of selling the assets of the PSPCL and immediately resolve the employee demands. The MP assured to raise his voice in favor of the ongoing struggle in the Parliament as well.

Addressing this protest, various leaders strongly against the poor policies of the Punjab government that are destroying the institution. Speaking on the occasion,  Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader  Buta Singh Shadipur, supported the ongoing struggle by  his organization and the United Kisan Morcha(UKM)

Addressing the employees and pensioners who had arrived from different corners of Punjab, employee leaders Harpal Singh and others said that the Punjab government and the  PSPCL/PSTCL management want to bankrupt this important public sector institution by selling the large-scale priceless assets of the Powercom.

They also demanded the passing of a resolution in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha against the anti-people draft of the Electricity Amendment Bill 2025 and the four labor codes. The leaders strongly demanded from the Powercom management to implement the agreement reached regarding the demands of the employees and pensioners.

The leaders also demanded from the Punjab government to release 16 percent dearness allowance, make the contract  workers permanent, and fill the thousands vacant posts in the Powercom  through regular recruitment.

Today, on the third day, with great enthusiasm, instead of the 11 leaders, 14 leaders of employee and pensioner organizations sat on a hunger strike for 24 hours.
