Powercom Engineers Poll Duty Issue: after DCs defy election commission orders, Punjab govt issues fresh instructions

Today, Tejveer Singh, IAS, additional chief secretary, Power department to government of Punjab has once again issues instructions to all the deputy commissioners of Punjab to no to depute PSPCL/ PSTCL engineers on election duty.

The PSEB Engineers’ Association has raised the matter of their officers being deputed on election duty by the deputy commissioners with the concerned state government authorities.

ACS Power has once again asked the deputy commissioners to exempt the PSPCL/ PSTCL engineers from poll duties.

The association has also raised the issue with the concerned authorities that “despite the directions of the Election Commission of India (ECI) that “operational/technical staff of electrical companies will be requisitioned for election duty only in unavoidable circumstances or related to their department for election purposes”, they are being deputed on poll duties.

Earlier on March 27,2024, Tejveer Singh, IAS, additional chief secretary, Power department to government of Punjab had written a similar letter to all the deputy commissioners of Punjab to not to depute power engineers on any poll duty and also not the requisitioned any vehicle of the power department for any poll related duty, as per chief electoral officer (CEO), Punjab.

The election commission has already asked the state government to not to depute power engineers on any poll duty and also not the requisitioned any vehicle of the power department for any poll related duty.
