Some private schools in Patiala are known for regularly disobeying the orders of the state’s Chief Minister and Education Minister. Despite this persistent defiance of government directives, the district administration has failed to take effective action against them.

DAV Public School, Patiala, Mata Gujri School, Devigarh are one of them. They called their teachers to school despite Punjab education minister Harjot Singh Bains December 31,2025 orders of extension of school holidays in Punjab.

Earlier the schools were schedule to open from January 1,2026 but the govt extended holidays till January 8,2026.

DAV Public School, Patiala principal Vivek Tewari could not be contacted despite repeated phone calls, message. Tewari has called his school teachers to report to school on 7 January as per the normal school timings. Students are directed to resume classes and report to school on January 8, 2026.

Meanwhile Bhupinder Singh of Mata Gujri Senior Secondary School, Devigarh he said “ yes we have opened the school for teachers. We are not selling afeem, drugs we are running a school and teachers are called for to do their duties. A student can come to school to clear his/ her doubts as board exams are going to start from next month. Moreover, our school is located in an open area, and teachers have to regularly check for cleanliness and the presence of insects, snakes, and other reptiles in the surroundings and classrooms before the beginning of the school session. Media is afraid of government. Media should question CM why only teachers are not allowed to come to school when patwaris , government staff are going to their offices.”
