Today, Er. G. S. Khehra superintending engineer (SE) from Punjab state power corporation limited (PSPCL) Suburban Circle in Amritsar, along with Xen Er. Manohar Singh and SDO Er. Dharminder Singh, was conducting a routine inspection of the West Subdivision in Amritsar to prepare for uninterrupted supply during the upcoming summer season.

Suddenly, he noticed two individuals near the meter pillar box tampering with a smart meter. The SE stopped and questioned them. One of the individuals fled, but the other was detained by the SE and his team. They found a magnet and wires being used to tamper with the meter. The anti-power theft police were called, and the detained individual was handed over to them.

He did not divulge any details, and an FIR has been lodged by the SHO of the Anti Power Theft department in Verka. Given the severity of the incident, the police are conducting a thorough investigation. This significant breakthrough by the PSPCL requires further investigation to dismantle the entire gang involved and to understand their methods of tampering with smart meters.
