PSPCL on record breaking spree; surpasses previous record of power supply

Due to intense heat waves and deficient monsoon in July ,the daily supply by PSPCL has also increased by around 25.5 % to 103855 lakh units (LU) against last year’s supply of 82719 LU .
Last year the maximum power supply made by PSPCL was 96850 LU for the month of August. The maximum daily power supply made by PSPCL is 3666 LU on 22st.July this year.
The power demand in July remained around 15500 MW as the demand increased following deficient rainfall for the month of July in Punjab. The maximum power demand of 16089 MW this year was on June 29.
PSPCL had estimated the daily power supply of 2900 LU but practically PSPCL supplied 3351 LU per day .
According to details procured from Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, the average daily power supply in the state in June was 3351 lakh units , comprising 376 LU from states own thermal units 190 LU from own hydro projects, BBMB share 155 LU and total power purchase of 2560 LU.
Due to intense heat waves and practically no rain in June ,the average daily supply by PSPCL has also increased by around 24 % to 2918 LU per day against last year’s supply of 2352 lakh units per day. The power supply during June this year was 8772 million units ( MU) against last year’s supply of 7055 MU.
A senior officer of the corporation said that with increased withdrawals from the northern grid including adequate power purchases , all power consumers in Punjab have been provided uninterrupted power supply without power cuts during the paddy season.
The increased power supply for the domestic and agriculture sector in the current paddy season due to lesser rainfall has increased the power subsidy bill considerably.
