PSPCL seeks BBMB help to increase power generation: A.Venu Prasad

Due to paddy transplantation and hot summer season, the power demand in the Punjab has touched more than 13000 MW.
In order to meet the rising power demand and making all possible efforts to supply 8 hours scheduled power to AP consumers and uninterrupted power to other consumers in the state, Punjab state power corporation limited has requested Bhakra Beas management board to increase power generation.
In a written communication CMD PSPCL A Venu Prasad has requested to Sanjay Srivastava, Chairman, BBMB to explore the modalities to generate more power from Bhakra project and run all available units round the clock to provide relief to farmers to increase water in canal system for irrigation purpose.
CMD said that the water level of the Bhakra reservoir is less as compared to the water available in previous years. Due to this, BBMB is not generating full power to meet the demands of agriculture sector. He said that the reservoir level in BBMB at present is 1524.60 ft against last year level of 1581.50 ft.
Similarly in Pong Dam, it is 1281 ft against last year level of 1335 ft. At present, 194 lakh units of power is supplied by BBMB. PSPCL is taking power presently from :
