PSPCL deputy chief engineer distribution circle, Gurdaspur Er. Ramesh Sarangal disclosed the campaign launched by Punjab State Power Corporation Limited to curb theft of electricity gained momentum when immense raids were conducted by 45 teams of distribution wing of gurdaspur circle. He said that these raids were conducted in suburban and rural areas of Gurdaspur district on Saturday.

Er. Ramesh Sarangal also disclosed that during these raids 6469 no. premises of consumers of different categories were checked in which 87 no.of consumers were found for indulging in theft of electricity and 558 No. consumers were detected for UE/UUE during raids.He said that a sum of rupees 63.36 lacs. was imposed as fine.He also added that the F.I.Rs. are also being registered against the consumers  found for  theft of electricity.

A.Venu Prasad, CMD, PSPCL and director distribution Er.DIPS Grewal has adopted the policy of Zero tolerance against the menace of theft of electricity and as a part of this policy, massive  raids are being conducted throughout the  Punjab on day to basis to detect and penalize the consumers  indulged in illicit act of stealing electricity. The drive against the theft of electricity will be further intensified in the coming days and such regular surprise raids will be continued by PSPCL.

Er. Pardeep Kumar Saini, chief engineer distribution, PSPCL, Border Zone, Amritsar has made an appeal to the consumers not to do such illicit acts of theft of electricity. He also appealed the consumers to deposit their electricity bills well in time to avoid the disconnection in case of default in making payment of electricity bills.

He also appealed that consumers should also make use of online payment facility being provided by PSPCL, as this is also the need of the hour keeping in view rising cases of Covid-19 pandemic  cases in the state.
