World University’s Gatka Team Achieves Remarkable Success at National Level

Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, has achieved a significant milestone with an outstanding performance at the All India Inter-University Gatka Championship 2025–26. The University’s girls’ team secured the overall third position, while the boys’ team clinched the overall second position, bringing laurels to the institution.
The championship was held from April 22 to April 26, 2026, at the University of Kota, with participation from around 700 players representing 34 universities from across the country. A total of 30 players from Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, including 16 girls and 14 boys, participated in the event.
In the girls’ category, the team delivered an excellent performance by winning medals in all events, securing a total of 26 points and achieving the overall third position. In the individual single stick event, Inderpreet Kaur (B.A. Part II, Department of Punjabi) secured the first position and won a gold medal. Similarly, the boys’ team secured the overall second position with 28 points.
The Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Prit Pal Singh, congratulated Dr. Varinder Singh Bhullar, Head, Department of Physical Education and Sports Technology, and the entire Gatka team, encouraging them to achieve even greater success in the future.
Dean Academic Affairs, Dr. Sukhwinder Singh Billing, stated that the University has been running a one-year diploma course in Gatka since 2019 in collaboration with the ‘Sarbat Da Bhala’ Charitable Trust and with the support of Dr. S.P. Singh Oberoi. This initiative has been instrumental in developing skilled players who are also serving as coaches.

Dr. Varinder Singh Bhullar further added that the University’s Gatka team has consistently secured top positions over the past four years in the All India Inter-University Championships as well as in the Khalsai Games organized by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). Notably, the team had earlier secured second position in the National Gatka Competitions organized by the SGPC at Sri Anandpur Sahib and also won first position at the Punjab State Inter-University Youth Festival 2025 held at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.
On this occasion, Registrar Dr. Tejbir Singh, Dean Student Welfare Dr. Sikander Singh, Dr. Harneet Billing, Dr. Hardev Singh, and other officials congratulated Gatka Coach Talwinder Singh, Assistant Professor Harjinder Kaur, Dr. Bahadur Singh, and the entire team.
