Aviation Industry is the fastest growing industry worldwide as well as in India. Along with the flying crews, the ground technical staff plays an equally important role in achieving the ultimate airworthiness of Aircraft. With the introduction of private operators in the schedule as well as in non-schedule operations, the number of job opportunities in the field of Aircraft maintenance has increased during the last couple of years. Demand is going to rise in coming years too. Aircraft Maintenance Engineers are playing a responsible role in Aviation industry by ensuring that the Aircraft is in airworthy condition for the flying. Due to the safety requirements, they need to have a high level of personal integrity, commitment to accuracy and upholding of standards. One has to obtain an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer’s license for which he is required to pass various Aircraft Maintenance Engineer’s license written the examination and Oral-cum-Practical Test conducted by Director General of Civil Aviation, Government of India, and New Delhi.
Punjab Aircraft Maintenance Engineering College, Civil Aerodrome, Sangrur Road, Patiala (PAMEC) was established by the Punjab Government in the early 1980s to impart ab-intio training in the field of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME). The institute was approved by the Director General of Civil Aviation, Government of India, New Delhi vide their letter No 5-F-21/2521 dated 4th June 1983. The scope of approval was in the Category “G” (Light Aircraft & Piston Engine) to impart the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (A.M.E.) training to students for obtaining Basic Licence in LA & CP Category.
Punjab Aircraft Maintenance Engineering College, Patiala is an only Institute in India, which is also offering; three years Diploma Course in Aeronautical Engineering & Aircraft Maintenance (AE & AM) recognized by All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi and affiliated to Punjab State Board of Technical Education & Industrial Training, Chandigarh. Both the courses are conducted concurrently with the syllabus, approved by the Director General of Civil Aviation, New Delhi, and Technical Teachers Training Institute, Chandigarh respectively. The syllabus for both the courses is same.
The Institute has been approved in Mechanical stream (Aeroplane and Powerplants) comprising of Light Aero plane(LA), Heavy Aeroplane (HA), Piston Engine (PE) and Jet Engine (JE) by the Director General of Civil Aviation, Government of India, New Delhi wide their letter no PAMEC/ F- App/1114 dated 14th July, 2016 after completing all the basic requirements as per the conditions and requirements laid down by Director General of Civil Aviation, New Delhi in Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR).
Due to highly qualified faculty having Aviation Industry experience, Punjab Aircraft Maintenance Engineering College, have produced hundreds of engineers, now placed with reputed international, national, state aviation companies. It’s the only institute in Punjab, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.
The USP of this institute is-its Airfield, which helps students in practical training and has Aviation Operational Environment. The Institute has spacious, well furnished and Airy class rooms. All class rooms are equipped with the latest Teaching Aids like LCDs Projectors and Computers etc. The college has Computer Lab with internet & networking facility. College Library is equipped with the latest Aviation Books and journals on different subjects. A good number of books including the Director General of Civil Aviation recommended Test Books and peripheral and reference books are provided to the students. Aviation journals are also subscribed for the students to make them aware of the latest development in the Aviation industry. Indoor and outdoor games are provided to the students and they are encouraged to play after the college time or on holidays to make them physically fit.
The college has bought serviceable pressurized turbine aircraft (not airworthy), fitted with a jet-turbo propeller and turbo fan engine to impart practical training to students. The college has a Hangar for parking the aircraft. Instructional Room is equipped with LED and Computer which help students in all the way.
Institute owned Learjet (serviceable with engines running), Pushpak(serviceable with the engine running), Helicopter Bell 47 (unserviceable only for practical training), Gas Turbine Engines, Opposed Piston Engines, Various types of mock ups of an aircraft system in working conditions, for practical training.
