Punjab CM orders withdrawal of Silos as sub yards;to remain as storage centres-Barsat

“Punjab govt has cancelled and withdrawn its orders of making private Silos as sub-yard for procurement purpose” said Punjab Mandi Board chairman Harchand Singh Barsat in a press conference at Chandigarh
He said these private Silos will be used as storage centres only and no purchasing will be allowed from now onwards.
Barsat added that these silos are working as sub yard and storage centres since 2013. In a routine process the department has made them as sub yard. But, now the chief minister Bhagwant Mann has ordered the closure of these sub yards as purchase centres.
He added that its also a fake news that 26 market committees are dissolved in Punjab. To strengthen the mandi board lots of development works are going on under the leadership of chief minister Bhagwant Mann. Moreover 46 new purchase centres are made.
As per available information, Punjab has 11 corporate silos in nine districts as procurement centres. Meanwhile, the Punjab government has added one more silo in the existing list of 11 silos, thus taking the number to 12. The 12th one is LT Foods Silo in Bhagtanwala village of Amritsar with a total capacity of 50,000 tonnes. Now, the total silos are 12 in nine districts with a storage capacity of 7.75 lakh tonnes of food grains.
