Punjab govt appointed former ACS Home as first chairman Police Complaint Authority

Punjab government has appointed Dr. Nirmaljit Singh Kalsi, IAS (retd) of 1984 batch and former Additional Chief Secretary Home as first Chairman of Police Complaint Authority, Punjab.. He will hold office for a term of 3 years from date of joining.

In an order issued by Satish Chandra (IAS) Additional Chief secretary, Home Affairs, Punjab read the “this appointment shall be governed by the Punjab police (Amendment )Act 2014 and the remuneration  and allowances and terms and conditions of the appointment shall be notified separately.”

Earlier Nirmaljeet Singh Kalsi and G Vajralingam both retired IAS officers have been shortlisted by a Punjab government selection committee out of the eight applicants for appointment as first chairperson of the Punjab Police Complaints Authority.

Dr. Nirmaljit Singh Kalsi, IAS (retd) of 1984 batch retired as Additional Chief Secretary (Homes) and 1986-batch IAS officer G Vajralingam had superannuated from the post of additional chief secretary (technical education and industrial training) in October 2018. But Punjab govt appointed former ACS Home as chairman Police Complaint Authority.

Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh approved the name of Dr Nirmaljit Singh Kalsi after the selection committee, headed by chief secretary Karan Avtar Singh, comprising additional chief secretary (home) Satish Chandra, nominee of the advocate-general and secretary home forwarded their recommendations, for final approval.
