Punjab govt appointed SAD leader as Chairman

In a surprise move Punjab government has issue an orders of appointment of shiromani akali dal leader Satbir Singh Khatra as the chairman of Sugarfed.
Khatra contested 2017 assembly election as SAD candidate from Patiala (rural) against congress leader and local bodies minister Brahm Mohindra. Khatra lost the elections.
SAD supremo Sukhbir Singh Badal had even included Satbir Singh Khatra in an 87-member Working Committee of the party comprising senior party leaders, in March this year. He was made the party’s halqa in-charge of Patiala rural early in 2017
Punjab govt appointed SAD leader as Chairman. Khatra was a strong candidate for SAD ticket for Patiala (Rural), this year too. But, in October 2021he has distanced himself from politics and staying out of politics and disrespecting Guru Granth Sahib and farming issues.
Satbir Singh Khatra’s father retired IPS officer Ranbir Singh Khatra has been leading the team that investigated the sacrilege cases. Khatra had said at that time that “he took the decision as he was perturbed over allegations by certain sections that the probe conducted by his father in sacrilege cases was messed up.”
