Punjab govt retired gazetted officer, private person amongst other arrested by vigilance bureau

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Wednesday apprehended Suresh Kumar, retired Block Development and Panchayats Officer (BDPO), Rajesh Kumar, posted as Panchayat Officer, block Bhunga, in Hoshiarpur, Lucky Thakur, posted as Panchayat Secretary at block Tanda, in Hoshiarpur district and a private person Dhiraj Kumar Gill, a resident of Mukerian in Hoshiarpur district.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned accused have been arrested after enquiry of a complaint lodged by Chander Shekhar, a resident of Dinanagar, in Gurdaspur district.

He further informed that during the investigation of the said complaint, it was found that the above mentioned accused had wrongfully withdrawn government grants amounting to over Rs 10 lakhs. These grants were intended for the villages of Chota Bianpur and Chechian Chhaurian in Gurdaspur district. The above said accused, while posted in the Gurdaspur district, in connivance with each other had illegally transferred government grants into the bank account of Dhiraj Kumar Gill, a private individual. Upon discovery of this fraudulent activity, they managed to transferred back these grants to their intended sources, but after a period of one month.

Punjab govt retired gazetted officer, private person amongst other arrested by vigilance bureau. Official spokesperson of the state VB added that in this regard a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against all the above mentioned accused at VB Police Station, Amritsar Range. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation was under progress, he said.
