Punjab Govt suspends management committee of a college over allegations of misuse of funds

Taking serious note of allegations of misuse of funds by the management of Akal Degree College for Women Sangrur, Punjab government has suspended the management of the college and appointed ADC General as administrator.

Punjab cabinet minister and Sangrur MLA Vijay Inder Singla said that this college is the only institute for girls in the 40 km radius of Sangrur area and since the start of all this controversy, he has continuously been giving feedback to CM Captain Amarinder Singh and higher education minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa to save this institute. He also assured that the institute will not be allowed to stop admissions for BA for academic session 2020-21 at any cost.

“Our government is watching all the developments closely and has acted accordingly. I have conveyed each and every development to concerned authorities. Following which a high level committee has also been formed to probe the matter of misuse of funds provided by the government to the management as an aided college,” the PWD minister said.

Vijay Inder Singla added, “The special committee will expose the wrongdoings of committee, if they have utilised the funds against any norm. But till then, I request Sangrur residents not to get influenced by unnecessary statements of various political leaders. Till last evening, I did not release any statement about it but have always been working sincerely to save this institute.”

Singla said, “There are various politicians, who are issuing baseless statements without making any sincere efforts. I request all residents of my constituency to analyze the positive actions taken quickly by the Congress-led Punjab government with their own consensus.”
