Punjab ‘movement of foodgrain stocks’ stalled; repercussion of vigilance cases

Punjab foodgrain agencies representatives has given an official request to the General Manager, Food Corporation of India, Chandigarh to stop placement of indents for loading of foodgrain specials from State of Punjab.
The letter read “we regret to convey that due to undue harassment being faced by employees of foodgrain agencies of Punjab by Vigilance Bureau, Punjab and threat perception of field employees to get them falsely implicated in various cases, joint Co-Ordination Committee of State Procurement Agencies, has decided to go on indefinite strike with immediate effect against this injustice. As such your good self is requested to kindly issue directions to your concerned officials not to place any indent for specials of food grains from state of Punjab besides movement of stocks by road be also kept on hold till our strike is called off.”

The spokesperson said “for some time now, the officers and employees of the department are being deliberately harassed by the vigilance in one way or the others. The leave no point to harass inspectors of state government procurement agency in the name of gate pass or sometimes in the crates” .
“Due to this action of the Vigilance Bureau, there is an atmosphere of fear and dissatisfaction in the entire inspector class. It is an open secret under what circumstances, conditions crates are being supplied to us. So, keeping in view yesterday’s action of the vigilance bureau in various districts of Punjab, a decision has been taken by Inspector Union Punjab to meet the principal secretary , food and civil supplies department, government of Punjab and to apprise him about the prevailing situation in the state and to put forward our point and raise our genuine demands” added the spokesperson.
