Punjab players break all records of last 72 years in history of Asian Games

In the Asian Games that concluded at Hangzhou today, where Indian Contingent performed their best so far, winning a total of 107 Medals with 28 Gold, 38 Silver and 41 Bronze medals. With this achievement, the Indian contingent secured fourth place in the medal list, while 33 players from Punjab won a total of 19 Medals with 8 Gold, 6 Silver and 5 Bronze medals breaking all the records of 72 years history of Asian Games.

In the 72-year history of the Asian Games, players from Punjab had previously won a maximum of 7 gold medals each in the 1951 New Delhi and 1962 Jakarta Asian Games and this time breaking the record, Punjab players won 8 Gold medals. Apart from this, Earlier Punjabi players had won the highest total of 15 medals in New Delhi in 1951. This time Punjabi players also broke the record by winning a total of 19 medals.

Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer congratulated the Indian contingent and Punjabi players who have brought glory to the country due to their hard work on the big stage of sports. He said that on the instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, 48 Punjabi players who participated in the Asian Games 2023 were given a total of Rs 4.64 Crore for preparations.

While releasing the details of Punjabi players who won medals in the Asian Games, Meet Hayer said that Sift Kaur Samra won one gold and one silver medal in shooting. Harmanpreet Kaur (Captain), Kanika Ahuja and Amanjot Kaur in Women’s Cricket, Tajinder Pal Singh Toor in Shot Put, Arjun Singh Cheema and Zorawar Singh Sandhu in Shooting, Parneet Kaur in Archery, Harmanpreet Singh (Captain), Hardik Singh (Vice Captain), Manpreet Singh, Mandeep Singh, Varun Kumar, Gurjant Singh, Shamsher Singh, Jarmanpreet Singh Ball, Krishan Bahadur Pathak and Sukhjit Singh in Men Hockey and Arshdeep Singh and Prabsimran Singh won gold in Men’s Cricket.

Among the Silver medalists, Harmilan Bains bagged two Silvers in 800m and 1500m and Jaswinder Singh one Silver and one Bronze in Rowing. Dhurav Kapila won the Silver medal in the Badminton team and Rajeshwari Kumari in Trap Shooting.

Among those who won Bronze Medals, Vijayveer Sidhu won Bronze in Shooting, Satnam Singh, Sukhmeet Singh and Charanjit Singh in Rowing, Manju Rani in walk race and Simranjit Kaur won Bronze medal in Archery.
