Punjab police recovers 2kg heroin from Tharaj during checking; three held-SSP

With the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has intensified the vigil against drug smugglers, Punjab Police on Friday have arrested three drug smugglers after recovering 2 Kg heroin from their possession during checking at Tharaj PS Baghapurana in Moga.

Those arrested have been identified as Jaswant Singh alias Kala and Sukhchain Singh alias Sonu, both residents of Daulewala and Satnam Singh alias Sonu of village Laatianwala in Kapurthala. Accused Jaswant and Sukhchain have already been facing criminal cases under NDPS act. The Police have also recovered a white colour Maruti Ciaz car bearing registration number  PB09AB4970 from the accused persons.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Moga Gulneet Singh Khurana, while addressing a press conference, said that under an ongoing special drive against drugs, CIA Staff of Moga had received a tip-off that the trio accused persons are travelling with high quantity of heroin from Bhagta Bhai Ka to Baghapurana. Acting promptly, the police teams immediately  laid  a Naka at Bhagta Bhai Ka road in village Thraj, he added.

He said that, during checking, the police team stopped the White Ciaz car and recovered 2kg heroin from the possession of trio accused persons, who were travelling in the car.

The SSP said that further investigations are on and more recoveries and arrests are expected to be made soon.

Meanwhile, FIR no. 120 dated June 10, 2022 has been registered under sections 21/61/85 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Baghapurana.
