Punjab police withdraws security personnel’s attached with politicians, journalists, etc. Some of the proctetees are those who have number of security personnel’s attached with them and some have one or two. With this order the state police have withdrawn those security personnel’s attached with these VIPs.

Some of the protectees include –journalist Anirud Gupta (Tribune), Harpreet Kaur (Hindustan Times), Jagjit kaur, Nimrat Kaur (Spokesman), Jatinder Pannu (Nawan Zamana) industrialist Kamal Oswal, singer Gippy Grewal, Rakesh Chaudhary son of a mining contractor, families of former DGP, SP, DSP, wife of an IPS officer, son of speaker vidhan sabha, Barjinder Singh PCS (Retd.) etc

These orders seems to emphasised the need to discourage the tendency of using security cover as a status symbol on the part of people holding positions of authority.

Even Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi had said after assuming the office “I am one of you and I don’t need an army of 1,000 security personnel to protect me from my own brethren and has asked the state police to reduce his security cover as having so many men to protect him is a “sheer wastage of resources”.
