Central Jail Patiala hosted the zonal matches of the Punjab Prison Olympics 2024 from March 4th to 10th. The event saw enthusiastic participation from various correctional facilities, including Central Jail Patiala, Central Jail Shri Goindwal Sahib, District Jail Roopnagar, District Jail Sangrur, New Jail Nabha, and Sub Jail Malerkotla. Inmates competed in a variety of disciplines, including Tug of War, Volleyball, Badminton, Athletics (100m, 400m, Long Jump), and Kabaddi. Outstanding players from this zonal tournament will proceed to the Inter-Zonal Punjab Prison Olympic Games 2024 scheduled for March 30th to 31st, 2024, at Central Jail Patiala.
The zonal finals and medal distribution ceremony were held today, March 10th, at Central Jail Patiala, graced by the esteemed presence of Surinder Singh Saini, DIG Prisons Headquarters and Patiala Circle, along with officials of Central Jail Patiala, including Manjit Singh Sidhu, Superintendent, Central Jail Patiala, Harcharan Singh Gill, Additional Superintendent, and other distinguished guests. In the Kabaddi final match, witnessed by the chief guest, the Patiala Kabaddi team emerged victorious against Team Sub Jail Malerkotla in a thrilling encounter.
The Punjab Prison Olympics, inaugurated in 2024, aims to instill a sense of sportsmanship and discipline among inmates and channel their energy positively. Professional coaches were engaged to ensure the smooth conduct of the games.
