In a major breakthrough, Punjab rice millers association has called off their strike after meeting with Punjab govt minister, MLAs, officials at Chandigarh.
The association has decided to start procuring the paddy from tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Gurkiratkirpal Singh, Secretary, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs has confirmed the same. He said, ” their issue is not with the state govt. The sate govt is helping them and will help them to sort out their issues with the central govt.”
As per spokesperson of the association, chief minister Punjab will write a letter to the union minister of food, consumer affairs and public distribution Piyush Goyal on Monday and form a team to further take up their matter with the central govt.
Rice Shellers are aggrieved of the losses being faced by them due to blending of fortified rice Kernels (FRK) and are on strike for last number of days, which has adversely
affected the lifting of paddy from the market yards and subsequently putting
burden on the entire food chain process.
As per available information, the millers, who have nothing to do with quality of fortified rice kernels (FRK) are being compelled to face consequences for the quality of fortified rice kernels (FRK) due to rejection of their stock but it has nothing to do with the rice millers. A rice miller can be held liable only for the quality of Custom Milled Rice (CMR) but not for the quality of fortified rice kernels (FRK), which is the sole responsibility of the manufacturer/supplier of fortified rice kernels (FRK).
Punjab Rice Shellers association called off their ongoing strike after meeting Punjab govt authorities. Meanwhile Rice Sheller Association president Tarsem Saini can’t be contacted despite repeated attempts.
