The three days tournament was flagged of by Amrit Kaur Gill, IAS, Additional Principal Secretary to Chief Minister and Director Sports, Punjab who took salute from as many as 2100 participants participating in these Games in colorful Track Suits given by Sports Department.

Arshdeep Singh of host Patiala bagged gold in 800m clocking 1:57.56mnts on the opening day of Punjab State Games for Men under – 25. Manpreet Singh of Sangrur won silver in 1:58.43mnts where as Gurkomal Singh of Ludhiana got bronze in 1:59.43mnts.

The inauguration function was performed at Raja Bhalindra Singh Stadium, Polo Ground, here today.The first lady Director Sports, Punjab and Asian Medalist in Cycling inspired the participants by her own experience and assured that Sports Department will cultivate sports persons and give all the support to encourage sports in the state. The former Indian Captain of Indian Team also prodded the participants to keep themselves fit physically as well as mentally for the competitions.

Earlier Surjit Singh Sandhu, Deputy Director Sports, Punjab made heartiest welcome to the Chief Guest and other guests present on the occasion. The other dignitaries present on the occasion were Kartar Singh Sehamby, Assistant Director Sports, Punjab, Pawan Kapoor, DCFA, Sports Department, Punjab.

Navjot Singh National Medalist of Basketball was the flag bearer to lead the march past. The torch bearing ceremony was performed by Saurabh Kumar of Gymnastics, Amritpreet Singh of Boxing, Mandeep Kaur also of Boxing, Purnoor Kaushal of Gymnastics and Riaal Puri of Boxing. International Boxer Amritpreet Singh took the oath on behalf of all the participants. A Gymnastics Show and cultural program was also presented Navodiya Public School, Patiala on the occasion.

In Shotput Karanvir Singh of Faridkot won gold with a distance of 16.80m, Sarover Prasher of Patiala won silver with 16.44m where as Prabh Kirpal Singh of Sangrur got bronze medal with 16.21m. In Long Jump Gurdas Singh of Ludhiana won gold with 7.07m, Jagroop Singh of Roop Nagar won silver with 6.97m and Rahul of Gurdaspur got bronze medal with 6.84m. In 110m Hurdles Navsharan Singh of Ludhiana won gold in 15.52sec., Tarundeep Singh also of Ludhiana won silver in 15. 93sec. and Simanpreet Singh of Sangrur got bronze in 16.42sec.

In Kho Kho Gurdapur drubbed Tarn Taran 15.1, Mukatsar Sahib crashed out Moga 18.1 and Bathinda ousted Fazilka 10-8.

In Football preliminary rounds Shri Fatehgarh Sahib drubbed Fazilka 3-0, Mansa beat Mukatsar Sahib 1-0.

In Basketball Mukatsar Sahib ousted Moga 38-14, Gurdaspur defeated Hoshiarpur 43-34.

In Table Tennis Ludhiana ousted Pathankot 3-0, Roop Nagar beat Faridkot 3-0, Barnala defeated Bathinda 3-0 where as S.A.S Nagar beat Fazilka 3-0, Jalandhar beat shri Fatehgarh Sahib by 3-0, Patiala beat Mansa by 3-0.

In Boxing 49kg Kundan Kumar of Fatehgarh Sahib beat Manpreet Singh of Mukatsar Sahib, Sahil Tangri of Jalandhar beat Prince of Pathankot, Satish of Patiala defeated Shubham of Roop Nagar. In 52kg Ranjot Singh of Ferozepur beat Harmanvir of Jalandhar, Sukhpreet of Bathinda beat Sandeep of Ludhiana, Sparsh of Sangrur beat Jatinder of Patiala.

In Hockey preliminary rounds Faridkot ousted S.B.S Nagar 3-0, Barnal defeated Hoshiarpur 2-0, Mukatsar Sahib beat Pathankot 3-1, Ludhiana out played Mansa 5-0, Amritsar ousted Fatehgarhn Sahib 3-0 where as Ferozepur beat Moga 2-1.

In Badminton Preliminary round Kapurthala beat Roopnagar 3-0, Sangrur beat Moga 3-1, Ferozepur beat shri Fatehgarh sahib by 3-0 and entered the next round.
