Punjab Turncoat leaders result: only 3 out of 14 turncoat leaders make it to 18th Lok Sabha

In 2024 lok sabha elections as many as fourteen leaders contested elections who are tagged as turncoat leaders. Out of these fourteen only three leaders have won the election and became Member of Parliament. BJP has fielded maximum numbers of turncoat leaders from Punjab.

Congress candidate from Patiala Dr Dharamvir Gandhi had joined the party just before the parliament elections. Earlier he was elected as AAP in 2014 and left the party. After that he formed Nawan Punjab party in 2019. Now, this time he became MP on congress ticket.

Another turncoat leader is Raj Kumar Chabbewal. Chabbewal was a congress MLA before joining aam aadmi party (AAP) in the present elections. After joining AAP, the party fielded him from Hoshiarpur and he won the elections.

Sher Singh Gubahiya remained Member of Parliament on shiromani akali dal in 2009, 2014. Later he had joined Congress. The party fielded him from Ferozepur and he won the elections by 3242 votes.

But other turncoat leaders failed to win the elections. The list of party wise turncoat leaders who contested the elections is

Ravneet Singh Bittu- He was Congress MP from Ludhiana  and shifted to BJP. The saffron party fielded him from Ludhiana and he lost the elections.

Preneet Kaur- She was Congress MP from Patiala and shifted to BJP. The saffron party fielded him from Patiala and she also lost the elections.

Gejja Ram- He is a close confident of Capt Amarinder Singh. On his directions he had left the congress and joined BJP. The saffron party fielded him from Fatehgarh Sahib he also lost the elections.

Sushil Rinku- He was AAP member parliament from Jalandhar. He left the national party and joined the saffron party. BJP also fielded him from Jalandhar and he lost the elections.

Arvind Khanna- A former congress, shiromani akali dal leader had joined BJP. The saffron party fielded him from Sangrur and he also lost the elections.

Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi- He was a congress MLA, minister in Capt Amarinder Singh led cabinet. Later he also shifted his loyalty towards BJP. The saffron party fielded him from Ferozepur and he also lost the elections.

Parampal Kaur- She was IAS officer. Her father-in-law, husband are staunch akali dal leaders. She had left her job and joined BJP along with her husband. The saffron party fielded him from Bathinda and she also lost the elections.

Manjit Singh Manna Mianwind– a three-time former SAD MLA, who joined the BJP in January 2022, has been fielded from Khadoor Sahib and he lost the elections.

Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu- He shifted his loyalty from shiromani akali dal to Congress. The party fielded him from Bathinda and he lost the elections.

Pawan Kumar Tinu- a former two-time MLA for Punjab’s Adampur constituency, left the Shiromani Akali Dal and joined the ruling Aam Aadmi Party before the elections. The party fielded him from Jalandhar but he lost the election.

Gurpreet Singh GP- aalit leader and former Congress MLA from Punjab’s Bassi Pathana, Gurpreet Singh G P joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) before the elections in March 2024. The party fielded him from Fatehgarh Sahib. But he lost the elections.
