Punjabi University becomes first state university to start online admissions

For the admissions of the academic session 2021-22, Punjabi University, Patiala has decided to make the admissions in online mode. Under this the Vice Chancellor of Punjabi University, Patiala Prof. Arvind launched an Android app and web portal to do counseling in online mode. T
This system has been developed by Dr. Gurpreet Singh Josan and Arwinder Singh under the guidance of Dr. Manjit Singh, Director, Admission Cell.
On this occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Arvind said that such systems are a need of the hour and would be a boon to both the departments and the students. Dr. Manjit Singh, Coordinator, Admission Cell said that most of the students are from remote rural areas and due to lack of resources they have difficulty in scanning documents and uploading them on web portals.
Talking about the Android app, Dr. Gurpreet Singh Josan said that through this app students can take a photo of any document from their phone camera and upload it on the server. In addition, students will be able to upload their detail marks for qualifying degree. On this occasion Arwinder Singh informed that the web platform would help in creating coordination among the students and departments for admission. The department will be able to view and verify the admission forms and documents received online.
Having online counseling will not only reduce the use of paper but will also enable students to get information about admission from the comfort of their own home. Dr. Gulshan Kumar, Co-Coordinator Admission Cell, says that admission cell always strive for the system which helps and ease the admission process both for students as well as university. Dr. Kanwaljit Singh, Director Computer Center, Dr. Jagroop Kaur, Assistant professor, Computer Engineering Department and Gurlal Singh, Asst Registrar, University Computer Center were also present on the occasion.
