Under the aegis of Centre for E-learning and Teaching Excellence an Online Lecture has been arranged as a capacity building initiative titled as “Know about Plagiarism Detection Tools (Ouriginal and Shodhmapak)”.

Dr. Kawaljeet Singh, Director, University Computer Centre and his team including  Sukhdeep Singh, Assistant System Analyst,  Dalbir Singh, System Analyst (Senior Scale) deliberated upon their experiences of working on a Plagiarism Software (Ouriginal/ Urkund) in Punjabi University, Patiala.

The team of the Centre expounded that PUNJABI UNIVERSITY, PATIALA has a definite policy on Plagiarism.   The University has compiled it properly with an aim to provide a definition of plagiarism and the procedures adopted by the University for detection of plagiarism.  This policy applies to Synopsis for Ph. D./ dissertations/ thesis/ project reports submitted by students of Ph. D., M.Phil., M. Tech., master programme  It is mandatory to screen through plagiarism detection software the Ph. D. / M.Phil. theses, postgraduate dissertations, project reports before submission to Punjabi University, Patiala i.e., before presenting the pre-submission seminar. The faculty, staff and students are also encouraged to screen all the research papers they prepare to communicate to national and international journals and research proposals/ reports to different agencie The team explained about best practices, methods, and common styles of citing and referencing.

A number of practical illustrations were demonstrated with an aim to upsurge awareness of what constitutes plagiarism and how to avoid unintentionally plagiarising.

In the second phase of the talk,  Jitesh Pubreja has demonstrated Shodhmapak: Plagiarism detection tool for Indian Language with special focus of Hindi and Punjabi funded by Ministry of Central Government to Prof. Vishal Goyal, Department of Computer Science, Punjabi University Patiala.

The lecture was presided over by Professor Arvind, Vice-chancellor.  The inaugural remarks were put forwarded by Professor AK Tiwari, Dean Research and Professor Manjit Singh Patterh proposed the concluding remark  The lecture was duly attended by a large number of research scholars, students and teaching fraternity.  Dr. G.Batra, Director, Dr. Vishal Goyal, Deputy Director, Dr. Gurpreet Singh Josan, Coordinator and Dr. Vikas Deep, Coo-Coordinator had organized the whole webinar in excellent manner.
