Professor Harbans Singh Department of Encyclopedia of Sikhism of Punjabi University, Patiala, organized Sardarni Kailash Kaur Memorial Lecture .
Dr Marcus Braybrooke, a well-known scholar in the field of interfaith studies from Oxford, England, delivered his lecture in on-line mode on the topic ‘How the Teaching of the Gurus has enriched my Spiritual Journey’. Dr Dharam Singh, former editor-in-chief, Encyclopedia of Sikhism, presided over the Lecture.
Welcoming the guests and scholars, Dr Paramvir Singh, HOD, gave introduction about the theme and importance of this Memorial Lecture. He said that Professor Harbans Singh, the founder editor-in-chief of the Encyclopedia of Sikhism instituted the Lecture in 1993 in the memory of his wife Sardarni Kailash Kaur who passed away in November 1992.
Dr Marcus Braybrooke shared his personal experiences of Sikhism resulting from his lifelong study of different religions and his participation in various Sikh religious occasions. He emphasized the urgent need of growing co-operation among people of different faiths to work for peace, care of the needy and protection of environment. Guru Sahibans made clear that ‘the same Lord is the creator and nourisher of all’, and recognized ‘all human kind as one’ and rejected all forms of racism, and discrimination. Dr Marcus Braybrooke further opined that different religions are genuine paths towards realization of God and the need of the day is to strengthen religious ties among people of different faiths.
Presiding over the Lecture, Dr Dharam Singh referred to the universal elements of Sikh thought and emphasized the need to take the message of the Gurus to a wider audience. The teachings and messages in Sikhism are highly relevant today ,as we see the challenges before humankind today.
Punjabi university organised Sardarni Kailash Kaur Memorial lecture. Dr Jaspreet Kaur Sandhu proposed the vote of thanks. Dr kanwaljit Singh, Dr Jaswant Singh, Dr. Kulwinder Singh, Surinder Singh, Bhupinderpal Singh, Swarndeep Singh Noor along with faculty members and students were present on this occasion
