Punjabi University Physics Department Student Amandeep Kaur brought laurels; receives foreign university’s Fellowship

Amandeep Kaur, a second-year M.Sc. (Honours Physics) student from the Department of Physics at Punjabi University, Patiala, has been awarded a prestigious fellowship by the University of Amsterdam. She will be conducting international research on “Spotlight on the Black Hole: Refined Multiwavelength Analysis” in the field of astrophysical physics at the Anton Pannekoek Institute, University of Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Under this fellowship, Amandeep Kaur will study black holes for six weeks, from June 27, 2025, to August 8, 2025, under the supervision of renowned expert Prof. Sera Markoff, specializing in high-energy theoretical astrophysics. Prof. Anup Thakur, Head of the Department of Physics, mentioned that each year, numerous students from different countries apply for this prestigious fellowship. However, only 7-8 students are selected globally.

This fellowship includes coverage for travel expenses, visa fees, accommodation, and additional stipend, all provided by the University of Amsterdam. Currently, Amandeep Kaur is conducting research on nuclear reactions occurring within stars under the supervision of Dr. Shubhchintak, Ramanujan Fellow, as part of her M.Sc. coursework.
