Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr. Balbir Singh, inaugurated development projects worth Rs. 1 crore in the villages of Lang and Majri Akalian, Patiala district. He officially dedicated the newly constructed Panchayat houses to the residents of these villages. Additionally, the Minister launched Punjab’s first fully automatic bio-composter plant in Lang village, capable of converting wet waste into fertilizer within 24 hours.

In his address, Dr. Balbir Singh emphasized the Punjab Government’s dedication to holistic development under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann. He highlighted that the Panchayat House in Majri Akalian was built at a cost of Rs. 40 lakh, while the one in Lang was completed for Rs. 52 lakh. Both facilities have now been handed over to the village residents. As part of the Swachh Bharat Mission and ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ initiative, a cutting-edge automatic bio-composter plant worth Rs. 6 lakh has been installed in Lang, marking the first such facility in the state. This plant converts wet waste into compost within a day. Furthermore, a shed was constructed at a cost of Rs. 7 lakh to support the plant’s operations.

Dr. Balbir Singh also addressed the ongoing project to renovate the village pond in Lang, aiming to utilize the water for agricultural purposes. He announced that all village ponds in rural Patiala will be rejuvenated, with their water being used for farming. This initiative is expected to reduce groundwater usage while ensuring cleaner ponds.
