Punjab’s Food and Civil Supplies Department principal secy accelerates wheat procurement process during mandi visits

Vikas Garg, the Principal Secretary of the Department of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Punjab, conducted a comprehensive review of the wheat procurement and lifting operations during his visit to the grain markets of Patiala district. Accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Showkat Ahmad Parray and other officials, Garg emphasized the need to expedite the lifting of procured wheat to ensure seamless transactions for farmers at the Mandis.
During his inspection of Rajpura, Bahadurgarh, and Patiala Mandis, Garg engaged with Arthiyas, farmers, and laborers to gauge the progress firsthand. He issued stringent directives to procurement agencies, the Mandi Board, and officials of the Food and Civil Supplies Department to streamline the procurement process, stressing simultaneous payment and lifting of purchased wheat to alleviate any inconveniences faced by farmers.
Deputy Commissioner Showkat Ahmad Parray briefed Garg on the wheat procurement arrangements in the district, highlighting the meticulous preparations undertaken. Parray revealed that as of the previous evening, 612,013 metric tons of wheat had been brought to the Mandis, with 593,943 metric tons purchased and 153,111 metric tons lifted, totaling payments of ₹1191.31 crores disbursed to farmers.
The visit also saw the presence of SDM Rajpura Jasleen Kaur Bhullar, District Food and Civil Supplies Controller Dr. Ravinder Kaur, ACFA Rakesh Garg, and representatives from procurement agencies.
