Punjab’s lone sports university MBSPSU marking its niche amongst sports institutes ; starting BA, Diploma in sports coaching courses

The Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University , Patiala is gradually establishing itself as a premier Sports Institution.
It is presently conducting two undergraduate courses: Bachelor of Physical Education and Sports (BPES) and Bachelor of Sports Science (BSS), and two postgraduate courses – Master of Physical Education and Sports (MPES) and Master of Science (Yoga), besides Post Graduate Diploma in Yoga (PGD(Yoga).
The University is adding two more courses – a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and a Diploma in Sports Coaching (Boxing). Keeping in line with the National Education Policy 2020, which envisages all Higher Educational Institutions to become multi-disciplinary, the University is commencing BA Course with English and Punjabi as compulsory subjects and three elective subjects out of Physical Education, Psychology, Political Science, and History. Also, most sportspersons prefer to pursue a BA Course that does not involve intensive study like Science, Commerce, or Computers.
Following the concept of Train the Trainer Concept and having a healthy crop of quality coaches in Punjab, a Diploma in Sports Coaching in a phased manner commencing with Boxing from the ensuing academic session is the second Course being started by the University.
The Course is structured on the lines of Diploma courses conducted in various sports disciplines in NSNIS Patiala and LNIPE, Gwalior. The Course will impart scientific training to graduates in any stream who have participated in Boxing at the University/ State/National and International level Championships.

A 10+2 student who is an Olympian or a Medal Winner in the Asian/Commonwealth/ World Championships will also be given admission. The University has constructed a new Boxing Hall in Prof. Gursewak Singh College of Physical Education, Patiala, for the Boxing Diploma Course.
