The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) proudly honoured its Junior Sports Officer, Raj Kumar, for his remarkable achievement at the recently concluded 4th Para Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China. Raj Kumar, in collaboration with his partner Chirag Baretha, an ITO from Uttarakhand, clinched a silver medal in the Men’s Double Badminton event, captivating the hearts of sports enthusiasts across the nation.
Raj Kumar and Chirag Baretha showcased exceptional skills and sportsmanship throughout the tournament, capturing the attention of fans and fellow athletes alike. Their remarkable journey to the podium was filled with intense matches and fierce competition.
The Indian duo faced a formidable challenge from a Vietnamese pair in a gripping three-set match in Semifinals. Despite losing the first set by 16-21, they displayed resilience and determination, taking the next two sets 21-17 and 21-15, ultimately securing their place in the final showdown.
In the gold medal match, Raj Kumar and Chirag Baretha went head-to-head with their Indonesian opponents. Both teams delivered an outstanding performance, but the Indian pair narrowly missed the top spot, settling for a well-deserved silver medal after a closely contested match that ended 1-2 in favor of Indonesia.
Jasbir Singh Sur Singh, Director Admin (PSPCL), expressed his heartfelt congratulations to Raj Kumar for his exceptional performance. He emphasized that the PSPCL is committed to promoting sports among its staff, and Raj Kumar’s achievement serves as an inspiration to all employees. The corporation takes pride in its dedicated sports officers and athletes who bring glory to the organization and the state of Punjab.
Furthermore, Director Admin revealed that in recognition of Raj Kumar’s remarkable achievement, the PSPCL had presented him with a financial token of support. He will be promoted as Sports officer as per sports policy of the PSPCL. He stated that the corporation is dedicated to encouraging and promoting players like Raj Kumar based on their achievements, ensuring that their efforts are rewarded and they receive the support they need to continue excelling in their chosen sports.
Director Admin also highlighted the PSPCL’s ongoing efforts to enhance the performance of its sports teams and the overall fitness of its employees. He said that a proposal for setting a state-of-the-art gymnasium at Patiala is under active consideration of the PSPCL management, aiming to provide world-class training facilities for the PSPCL’s athletes and staff.
In addition to the gym, Director Admin shared that the PSPCL is also considering the development of two sports grounds, one in Patiala and the other in Amritsar. These grounds are intended to further support and nurture the sporting talents within the organization, providing an infrastructure that fosters excellence in various sports disciplines.

Tej Pal Bansal, Deputy Chief Engineer/ Technical cum in-charge of Sports Cell of PSPCL said that the efforts will be made to elevate Badminton as preferred sport within PSPCL and very soon Inter-board Badminton Tournament will be organised and this will serve as platform for employees to showcase their skills, teamwork and sportsmanship.
